The Whole Shebang is a wine made by the small crew at Bedrock Wine Co. intended to offer authentic Californian deliciousness at a reasonable tariff. Composed of Zinfandel, Carignan, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Mataro, and other Mediterranean varieties, the wine is our version of the humble, yet soul-satisfying, Cotes du Rhone.Unlike most California wines at its price point, Shebang is entirely made in our cellars with the majority of lots fermented with indigenous yeasts, native malolactic strains, and raised in a combination of neutral oak barrels and tank (in other words, minimal winemaking chicanery). The fruit comes from old vineyards we are rehabilitating along with younger vine parcels and barrels of our Bedrock Wine Co. wines that do not fit into our higher-end wines. By being multi-vintage, it allows us, as a small winery, to create some consistency across cuvees and ensure we can deliver a wine we hope overdelivers for its price. | Morgan Twain-Peterson for Bedrock Wine Co.
Old Vines is composed of a variety of old sites from California that are either too small to be made into a vineyard designate wine or are "new" to the Turley family (and way of farming). Vines are anywhere from 41 to 129 years old, and a true representation of California old vine Zinfandel, hailing from vineyards in Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lodi, Contra Costa, Amador and Paso Robles. learn more | Turley Wine Cellars
Originally planted by Italian immigrants at the start of the 1900's, this wine hearkens back, in some ways, to a different time. While seamless and with an unparalleled clarity of flavor and aromas, there is also an undeniable gravity that Limerick Lane Zinfandel seems to exude. It may be nothing more than a romantic appreciation for the hands that have tended these vines for over a century. It's possible that it is a result of the other varieties, now all but extinct, save for a few old Zinfandel vineyards like Peloursin, Negrette, and Petite Sirah, that add more structure, color, and acid than normally found in Zinfandel. Maybe the rocks, the dirt, the morning fog and the afternoon sun come together in this place a little differently than anywhere else. It may even be all of these special characteristics combined, but the Zinfandel grown at the end of this little lane is undeniably special, undeniably unique, and undeniably "Limerick Lane" 1518 cases produced. | Limerick Lane Cellars
We've been farming Pato vineyard since 2012 and made our first vineyard-designated wine from this beautiful place in 2016. Planted in 1905 and located on the interior edge of Oakley, this well-known site (Ridge, Rosenblum, Neyers and others have vineyard-designated it in the past) is own-rooted and planted on the famous Delhi sands that define the area. Pato wines are completely different expression of the area than Evangelho - the site tends towards slightly higher pHs and a riper expression of the area. Here, dark fruit dominates, in part due to the larger percentage of Petite Sirah. The sandy soils provide supple texture and polish but there is considerable fruit weight. | Morgan Twain Peterson for Bedrock Wine Co.
Cedarman is a proprietary blend of certified organic fruit from some of the highest elevation plantings on Howell Mountain. Primarily Zinfandel, we use a small amount of Petite Syrah as well, resulting in a truly powerful, dense and wild wine, long on flavor.A proprietary assemblage of fruit from the Dragon and Rattlesnake Ridge vineyards on Howell Mountain, all certified organic. Brambly black fruits, roasted meats, and pepper. Dense and intense on the palate, with further graphite and tobacco. There's no denying this is a mountain wine! | Turley Wine Cellars
The glorious sands of Evangelho Vineyard created one of the more elegant and perfumed examples of the Evangelho we have made. A blend of 1890s planted Zinfandel, Mourvedre, Carignan, Alicante, Palomino, and more, the 2022 Evangelho was fermented in open-top tank and aged predominantly in 600 gallon foudre and puncheons. As we see more and more vineyards in the area getting torn out due to the steady march of urban sprawl, we feel even more protective of this true Grand Cru of California - a place where ultra-rare own-rooted vines plunge into 40-foot banks of sand along the breezy delta of the Sacramento River and San Pablo Bay. In 2022, the Zinfandel was juicy and delicious but perhaps not as serious as some years; however, the Mourvedre was all sorts of serious and the Carignan about as dense as we have ever seen it. The combination of the three sections of the vineyard has made for a wonderful version of this wine and also serves as a good reminder of why Zinfandel, Mourvedre, and Carignan have been the Holy Trinity in this part of California for over a century - a rare throuple with lasting power. | Morgan Twain Peterson for Bedrock Wine Co.
This wine is a blend of estate-grown fruit and a handful of old vine sites from around the region. This wine is bottled every August before harvest to make room for the new vintage. If you have seen our winery, you know how tiny it is! While I enjoy expressing terroir via vineyard-designated wines, there is something about the art of the blend that makes for a truly unique and complete wine. For example, I may bump up the Banfield percentage if the wine needs more natural acidity. If it needs some weight on the mid-palate, it gets some Maffei. If it needs a little more structure, I reach for some Limerick estate wine to add to the blend. The resulting wine is intentional, balanced, and nuanced and encapsulates what I believe to be the essence of Russian River Valley Zinfandel.59 barrels produced. | Winemaker Chris Pittenger for Limerick Lane CellarsA bright saturated ruby, the 2021 Zinfandel Russian River Valley is lifted with fresh aromas of candied peach, grenadine, and pressed red flowers. Medium to full-bodied, with great energy in its notes of fresh mixed berries, gravelly earth, and mocha, it's an elegant wine with fine tannins, a stony texture, and a good, clean finish. It's a fantastic entry to the wines from Limerick Lane to drink over the next several years. | 93 points, Jeb Dunnuck for jebdunnuck.com
Moonless dark night and opulent ruby hues greet the eye. A classic Zinfandel nose explodes with briary red fruit, licorice root and a bramble berry compote. Glass coating glycerin and natural acidity lift the aromatics and mid palate, which is medium plus in weight, and frame this garnet beauty throughout the spectrum. In the mouth, the palate is loaded with mixed dark fruits, spice cake and root beer along with a kiss of new oak. An undeniable streak of anise right down the middle glides into a 20 second plus finish. Full bodied and structured, a one hour decant works magic with this wine or lay it down for a few years to uncover hidden layers and complexities. 193 cases produced. | Scarlett Wines
Disciples Red Blend from The Crane Assembly includes a blend of Old Vine Zindfandel sourced from the G.B. Crane Vineyard where the vines are over 100 years old as well as sites such as Morisoli Vineyard in Rutherford, Milat Vineyard in St. Helena, and other esteemed vineyards considered to be disciples of the character found at Crane. The Zinfandel gives mouthfulls of blue and black fruits, elderberry, blueberry compote, and damp redwood forest. Pleasing umami sensation of wild Porcini plays around on the mid palate and the impact of Petite Sirah adds extra flesh and texture as well as a characteristic dark coco and cinnamon stick. | Falling BrightSourced from heritage vineyards in the Napa Valley, our 2019 Disciples is bold, extroverted and unabashedly Californian. Inspired by field blends of past, our 2019 vintage blends Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Charbono, Merlot, Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Pouring a vivid cardinal into the glass, the 2019 Disciples is replete with aromas of cranberry compote, Rainer cherry, Staedtler graphite pencil and Mendocino forest floor - the combination of redwoods, sorels, sun and ocean spray. Upon entry, the wine exudes a bright and lively character with notes of ripe raspberry, red fruits and subtle toasted oak. The wine closes at length with soft fine tannins and an inviting hint of vanilla. 120 barrels produced. | Kevin A. Fox for The Crane Assembly
The 2022 Zinfandel Teldeschi Vineyard Frank's Block is a complex, dynamic wine. In this tasting, the Teldeschi impresses with its striking energy - a feeling that builds with time in the glass. Dark toned fruit, leather, game, spice, tobacco and menthol are all dialed up. This is fabulous. 118-year-old vines, 200 cases produced. | 94 points, Antonio Galloni for VinousJoel Peterson. The 2022 Zinfandel Bacigalupi Vineyard is a fruity, exuberant offering in this range from Once & Future. One of the triumphs of the very good 2022 vintage, this is one of my favorite Bedrock Heritage wines we have made to date. Alas, due to a rough late frost, we also have less of it than normal. Starting in 2022 we adjusted some elements on the viticultural side, including less leafing of the canopy around the clusters. This had a positive impact as the more shaded fruit led to better resolved structure and a bit more suppleness earlier on. This wine always ages beautifully on the back of its tannin component, but sometimes the wines can approach a level of austerity in their youth that requires some patience. Though this wine will still age gracefully for decades, I do think it is one of the more immediately satisfying renditions of the wine - calling to mind the 2012 or 2016 vintages. As always, this is a field-blend of the 20+ varieties planted in 1888 at our home ranch. Based around Zinfandel (roughly 65%), the Bedrock Heritage always has a generous dollop of the spectacular old vine Carignan and Mataro in it, along with the smaller percentages of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Tempranillo, Trousseau, Castets, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir, Lenoir, et al...Wonderfully spicy and perfumed, this wine sings the song of Sonoma Valley. | Morgan Twain Peterson for Bedrock Wine Co.
Kitty-corner from Mancini Ranch, at the intersection of Piner and Olivet roads, lies Papera Ranch, planted in 1934 by Celestino (aka Charley) Papera. Unlike many other old-vine Piner-Olivet vineyards, most blocks of Papera Ranch are largely Zinfandel with only a sprinking of Carignan. As a result, Papera is always more red-fruited in character compared to the black and/or blue fruits of Montafi, Mancini, and Carlisle. Picked over two dates, October 4th and October 10th, all fruit was fully destemmed and cold soaked for five days before inoculation for fermentation. Aged in all French oak, 19% new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.Medium to medium-dark ruby. A heavenly bouquet of peach, raspberries, and cherries nearly overwhelms the senses. It's hard to stop smelling this wine! On the palate, slightly richer and more darkly fruited than the lovely 2018 but with plenty of acidity, this wine never feels heavy or out of balance. Finishes quite clean and long with very fine tannins. Enjoy from release (if you like your wines young) through 2028. | CarlisleComing from the Russian River, the 2019 Zinfandel Papera Ranch is a juicy, blue and red-fruited effort offering lots of candied violets, tobacco, and orange blossom aromatics, medium-bodied richness, light tannins, and a juicy, nicely focused mouthfeel. This elegant, focused, nicely structured Zinfandel is good today but will be better with another year of bottle age and should see its 10th birthday in fine form. | 94 points, Jeb Dunnuck for jebdunnuck.com
This vineyard is special to all of us here at the winery; right in our backyard, it's what we see every day at work (and from the family home!). We have slowly and steadily planted additional head-trained dry-farmed Zinfandel vines to complement the original planting from the mid-1990s, and the entire property is certified organic. Taking a page form our beloved old vine vineyards, we've also planted several of the varieties most commonly interplanted in old Zinfandel vineyards, including Carignane, Trousseau, and Cinsault. learn more | Turley Wine Cellars
The Dusi vineyard was planted by Dante Dusi in 1945 and it is farmed by his family to this day. The vines are head-trained and dry-farmed, planted in soil that is mostly alluvial with some very large rocks. Like our other vineyards in the area, Dusi is on the west side of Paso Robles, in the cool Templeton Gap sub-AVA. learn more | Turley Wine Cellars
Dragon Vineyard is an estate-farmed, certified organic vineyard. Planted at 2250 feet at one of the highest points on Howell Mountain, the vineyard sits well above the fog line and faces east, first to receive the soft morning sun. These important features, along with the rocky, red volcanic soil, make for a unique, full-bodied, powerful Zinfandel. this is often Larry's favorite since it goes with what he most likes to cook: bold, flavorful, spice-laden meats laid over an open fire. There's a reason Howell Mountain was the first designated sub-AVA in Napa Valley: the wines from this hallowed ridge are the most distinctive in the entire region....Powerful, deep, profound yet refined; much like its namesake, the Dragon is an elegant beast. Dark fruits, robust black pepper, savory orgeat, and overall superb. This is a wine with a lot of personality that you will want to discover with time. learn more | Turley Wine Cellars
At the ages of 19 & 16, Giuseppe Martinelli and Luisa Vellutini eloped to California from their small village in Tuscany. Starting out with a little bit of viticultural knowledge and a lot of hard work & determination, they eventually put a 60-degree slope in the Russian River Valley (aptly named Jackass Hill) under vine. Nearly a Century later, budwood from the Jackass Hill Vineyard became the start for another 10 acre parcel of Zinfandel planted in 1994 that supplies the fruit for the Giuseppe & Luisa bottling to this day. | Falling Bright...expressive, perfumed and a pleasure to drink - it offers restraint over power, detail over density and is one of those graceful California Zinfandels that seems more akin to Pinot Noir with is berry fruit and earthy layers. It has alluring scents of raspberry jam and tangerine with accents of lavender, mushrooms and fallen leaves, and the medium-bodied palate is supple and juicy with layer after layer of perfumed fruit. 1,630 cases were made. | 97 points, Wine AdvocateThe 2021 Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa is fresh and pure, with ripe cherry, mixed berries, fresh herbs, and spice. Full-bodied and packed with notes of ripe apricot, blackberry, and mocha, it feels expansive on the palate, with ripe tannins and good freshness throughout. | 93 points, Jeb Dunnuck for jebdunnuck.com
This seductive Zinfandel offers up a rich bouquet of forest fruits, wildflowers, and enticing anise and white pepper notes, complemented by a subtle minerality. The inviting fragrances perfectly translate into pure, rich layers of blackberry, tart cherry, and plum on the palate, elevated by elegant balance and a silky mouthfeel. The medium toast American oak adds slight coffee undertones, all pulled together in this sophisticated Howell Mountain Zinfandel. The 2018 Zinfandel isn't far off the style of the Grenache yet has plenty of classic Zin character as well. Blue fruits, peppery herbs, sandalwood, tobacco, and assorted spice notes all emerge from the glass, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a rounded, layered texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. This is gorgeous Zinfandel, and like the Grenache release, it's a singular wine... | 95 points, Jeb Dunnuck for jebdunnuck.com
This eight-acre vineyard was planted in the early 1800s, which makes it our oldest vineyard, and is located just south of our famed Jackass Hill Vineyard. These old, head-pruned vines are farmed much the same way as they were a century ago; without the use of trellising, irrigation or pesticides. Common to this area, it has both Goldridge and Franciscan soil types. | Martinelli Winery

An opaque purple core with a glowing crimson rim, Equinox 19 in the glass simply turns heads. Opening aromatics of opulent plum, Mendocino forest floor, boysenberry jam, sage, redwood, dark chocolate and baking spices declare themselves. Sublime and polished on entry, the palate expresses notes of blackberry, duck confit with a touch of orange, rosemary and gorgeous lamb tagine. A transparent deep ruby red color, the 2022 Zinfandel Jackass Hill is a refined wine, with serious aromas that continuously evolve in the glass, layered with elegant notes of sandalwood, menthol, red-berried liqueur, cherries, dried apricot, polished leather, and forest floor. Medium-bodied, it brings tremendous purity and an incredibly long palate. It's got real underlying structure that lasts for ages on the palate, with notes of wet stone and rich mineral persistence. It's not a joyful wine, but it's only going to improve if given a chance in the cellar. Drink it over the next 15 or more years.
