2019 Fingers Crossed Two Become One Syrah | Oak View, Ventura County California 750ml

The 2019 Syrah depicts a figure-eight knot that Julia tied and photographed. I was going to tell you what it symbolized, but then I remembered you are Fingers/Crossed family, so no need to spell it out. My better half searched far and wide to find the perfect knot...and photographed several along the hunt, but ultimately it was the knot tied by her own two ands that looked best. Fitting, I think. The edges have been intricately collaged in a beautiful explosion of color, contrast, and playfulness. We very much enjoy creating experiences, and believe that a visual one can add yet another dimension to your cornucopia of pleasure; a fourth sense in addition to smell, taste, and mouthfeel.
Raised for 20 months in our cold cellar and racked once via gravity over the course of elevage; this thoroughbred is comprised of 94% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre, and drops of Roussanne added just prior to bottling. Toe-curlingly-good; prepare to work out your tastebuds and leave your nostrils tingling as you inhale wafts of boysenberry and white flower aromatics. Notions of charred rib eye over an open flame are conjured up; brown spice and fruit leather, with streaks of acid binding it all together, keeping palates salivating, thirsty for more. | Nikolas & Julia Krankl, Fingers Crossed

...magical stuff. Mostly destemmed (there are 25% stems) and aging in 70% new French oak (mostly from Bien Nacido), its deep purple color is followed by incredibly pure creme de cassis and blackberry fruits that give way to more peppery, meaty, spicy notes with time in the glass. Full-bodied, concentrated, yet also flawlessly balanced, it has plenty of tannin and a great finish. My instincts say 2-4 years of bottle age are going to be beneficial, but this is brilliant. | 97-100 points, Jeb Dunnuck for jebdunnuck.com
